TRAVEL TIPS FOR THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY

What to know if you’re flying

SANTA ANA, Calif. – In anticipation of the nation’s most heavily traveled holiday period, John Wayne Airport (SNA) offers tips to help travelers prepare for a safe and enjoyable holiday air travel experience.

The busiest travel days this year are expected to be Wednesday, November 26 and Sunday, November 30, but travelers should be aware of an expanded travel window with holiday passengers traveling in higher than normal volumes between Friday, November 21 and Tuesday, December 2 for their Thanksgiving Holiday.

The following tips will ensure easier holiday travel:

Plan Smart: The Airport has begun construction on its Improvement Program. Use caution when traveling the Airport roadways and plan to arrive two (2) hours prior to your flight departure time to find parking, go through security screening and get to your gate on time. In addition, it’s always a good idea to check with your airline prior to arriving at the Airport to confirm your flight status.

Pack Smart: Know what items are accepted or prohibited through security and on the aircraft, this includes food and beverage items. Check www.tsa.gov for more information. As a reminder, gifts should not be wrapped as they are subject to search, even if placed in checked baggage. Many airlines have also implemented new requirements for checked bags. Check with your airline if you are unsure of their requirements.

Park Smart: JWA offers a variety of parking options. Three terminal parking structures are available in A1, A2, and B2 at the rate of $2 per hour or $20 per day, parking Lot C at the rate of $2 per hour or $17 per day, an off-site “Main Street” parking lot for $2 per hour or $14 per day and convenient valet parking for $30 per day are available. Parking Structure B1closed in September and Parking Lot C is now open. If you’re planning to park at the Airport, check the Airport’s Web site for parking options and construction updates by visiting www.ocair.com.

John Wayne Airport (SNA) is a self-supporting enterprise, owned and operated by the County of Orange and is the only commercial-service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles South of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine and Newport Beach. The Airport serves nearly 10 million passengers annually.
